This is an authentic vintage fine Persian Bidjar rug hand-knotted in Persia with an all wool pile on a cotton foundation. This rug has a full pile without any worn areas and is in excellent condition.
Bijar carpets, handwoven by Kurds in the vicinity of the village of Bijar in western Iran. Bijar carpets are very tough and known for their weight, sturdiness, and remarkable stiffness and resistance to folding. It is because of these characteristics that Bijar carpets have been nicknamed ” Iron Rug”. The foundations are usually of wool or cotton and camel wool in the older pieces, in the symmetrical knot, these carpets are double warped. Popular colors are bright red, rose, navy, brown, light blue, pink, yellow, ivory, orange, and beige.
