This is an authentic fine vintage tribal Persian Goltugh rug hand-knotted in Persia with an all wool pile on a cotton foundation. This rug has a full pile without any worn areas and is in excellent condition.
Persian Goltugh (Koltukh, Qoltuq) rugs are woven tightly with strong wool on a double weft cotton foundation. With the dense construction of the rug, Herati styled patterns, and a medallion set upon a secondary diamond shape in the foreground. Goltugh rugs often carry very similar characteristics as Bijar rugs. Colors found in Goltugh rugs are rich reds, blue, black, ivory, and an array of accent colors. The density of knots usually ranges from 100 – 250 kpsi and are commonly found in smaller sizes no larger than 5’x8′ – 6’x9′. These rugs are very durable and are an excellent alternative to Bijar rugs.
