This is an authentic fine Persian Tabriz Mahi rug hand-knotted in Persia with a wool pile with silk highlights on a cotton foundation. This rug has a full pile without any worn areas and is in excellent condition.
The Persian city of Tabriz is one of the oldest rug weaving centers and makes a wide array of designs, shapes, and sizes. Tabriz rugs are woven with fine wools on a base of fine cotton although occasionally on pure silk, these rugs feature intricate floral and geometric motifs, pictorials, and dramatic hunting scenes. The knots of Tabriz rugs are fairly dense but can range anywhere between 100-850 knots per square inch (kpsi). Common colors used range from rich shades of red, burgundy, blue all the way to the more subdued pastel colors.
