This is an authentic vintage Persian Afshar rug hand-knotted in Persia with an all wool pile on a cotton foundation. There is very minor wear on the pile and a small professionally repaired area, see photos, this rug is in very good condition.
Afshar is a handwoven rug style produced by the Turkic Afshar tribe, a semi-nomadic group principally located in the mountainous areas surrounding the modern region of Iranian Azerbaijan. Afshar rugs are quite distinguishable. Classic features of these antique rugs can include three pendants at either of the two ends (mostly in Sirjan designs), multiple diamond patterns (the number of diamonds can vary within a motif) and the tribal border, which is typical of all rugs made by this tribe, Afshar rugs can be found in floral patterns as well.
* The images provided are as accurate as possible. Due to the differences in computer monitors, smartphones, and tablets it is possible the colors of the rug may slightly vary.
