This is an authentic vintage tribal Persian Gabbeh rug hand-knotted in Persia with an all wool pile with abrash on a wool foundation. There is some very minor wear on the pile, see photos, this rug is in very good condition.
Gabbeh carpets are a traditional variety of Persian carpets, they are a hand-knotted pile rug of coarse quality and usually of medium size. This type of rug is popular among the populations of the Zagros Mountains of Iran, including Kurdish, Luri, and Qashqai people. Gabbeh carpets are much thicker and coarser than other Persian carpets; sometimes they can be as much as one inch or 2.5 cm in depth. The word “Gabbeh” comes from the Persian language, meaning raw, natural, uncut. This is a rough and primitive carpet.
Gabbeh patterns are of a very basic kind, with only a limited number of decorative mostly rectangular objects resembling mainly animals. Gabbeh carpets are usually woven with bright colors, such as yellow and red. Although large fields of solid color are used in Gabbeh designs, the color is variegated (the color varies throughout the rug, with the appearance of differently colored zones). Gabbeh carpets are made of natural, hand-spun wool yarn and all the colors are created with natural dyes.
* The images provided are as accurate as possible. Due to the differences in computer monitors, smartphones, and tablets it is possible the colors of the rug may slightly vary.
