Seraband (Saraband) is a district in Shazand county, located to the south-west of Arak in the province of Markazi, Iran. Rugs from this region woven in the 19th and 20th centuries are referred to as Saraband rugs. The designs of these rugs are more commonly known as Mir, and is said to be named after a nearby village called Malmir or Mal-i-Mir. The Mir design consists of the “Boteh” pattern, which is a small paisley leaf design in the foreground with a diamond medallion or an open field surrounded by geometric borders. These rugs are woven with high-quality wool on a cotton foundation and known colors are reds, blues, and ivories.
