This is an authentic vintage Persian Hamadan rug hand-knotted in Persian with an all wool pile with abrash on a cotton foundation. There is very minor wear on the pile, see photos, this rug is in very good condition.
Nahavand is a city located in the province of Hamadan, Iran. Beautiful quality rugs are produced in Nahavand with a cotton foundation and symmetrical knots. The wefts are cotton or wool. The background color is usually rust, red, navy or black and the pile is high and soft and made of wool from the surrounding area. The design of Nahavand rugs is mostly geometrical with a big central medallion, leaves, abstract animals and trees, in some of the rugs, there are also birds and vases. These rugs are of simple designs and are usually woven in smaller sizes.
