This is an authentic vintage Persian Tabriz rug hand-knotted in Persia with an all wool pile on a cotton foundation. There is some very minor wear on the pile, see photos, this rug is in very good condition.
Tabriz, the capital city of East Azarbaijan Province in the northwest of Iran, is one of the oldest rug weaving centers and makes a wide array of designs, shapes, and sizes. Woven with a double weft generally on a base of fine cotton although occasionally on pure silk, these rugs feature intricate floral motifs, pictorials in the field, and dramatic hunting scenes in rich reds, burgundy, navy, and the more subdued tones of beige and pink. Varying from pastels to deep rich shades, the coloring of Tabriz rugs typically feature cream backgrounds and egg blue medallion designs with reds being terra-cotta or rust, and the greens appearing pistachio or forest. The knots of these rugs are fairly dense but can range anywhere between 120-850 knots per square inch (KPSI). The foundation is usually cotton with a wool pile.
* The images provided are as accurate as possible. Due to the differences in computer monitors, smartphones, and tablets it is possible the colors of the rug may slightly vary.
