This is an authentic vintage Persian Yazd rug hand-knotted in Persia with an all wool pile on a cotton foundation. There is very minor wear on the pile, see photos, this rug is in very good condition.
Yazd, formerly also known as Yezd, is the capital of Yazd Province, Iran. The ancient city of Yazd has been producing high-quality handmade rugs for over four hundred years. Yazd was one of the earliest carpet weaving sites granted by the royal workshop of the Safavid Dynasty. Because the city of Yazd is located between Kashan and Kerman the carpets in this region have been greatly influenced by these neighboring cities. Some Yazd rugs repeat the Kerman motifs, particularly that of the central medallion on a self-color field. While others greatly resemble Kashan rugs and might need an expert opinion to tell the difference.
* The images provided are as accurate as possible. Due to the differences in computer monitors, smartphones, and tablets it is possible the colors of the rug may slightly vary.
